- Circulation Services
The circulation process at the Athens Technical College libraries is automated, and in order to check out
materials, faculty, employees, students and community patrons must register in the library system and obtain
a barcoded library card. Student, faculty, or staff ID cards can also be used as library cards, once they
are registered in the
library system. Registered ID card or library card must be presented in order to check out materials.
Library cards will be replaced once at no charge. Additional replacement cards will cost $1.00 each.
Videos and DVDs do not circulate except to faculty, who may check them out for three days. Other patrons may view them
in the library. Non-faculty employees and students may borrow books or audiocassettes for a
period of three weeks, and community patrons may borrow books or audiocassettes for two weeks. Items
may be renewed twice, if no holds have been placed on them. Books or audiocassettes borrowed by faculty
are due at the end of the quarter, and may be renewed twice if no holds or recalls have been placed on
them. If, after a faculty member has had an item for three weeks, a hold is placed on the item, it will
be recalled and assigned a new due date ten days after the hold has been placed. Failure to return the
item by the new due date will result in a fine of $1.00 per day per item. If an overdue book is recalled,
the $1.00 charge begins the date the book was recalled. There is also a fine of $.50 per day for failure
to return items on Reserve. There is an overdue fine of $.25 per day for overdue library materials which are not
on reserve. Faculty are exempt from regular overdue fines, but, If any patron loses an item, they
must pay a non-refundable processing fee of
$35.00 in addition to the cost of replacing the item. Students who owe fines or fail to return books
on time will be blocked from receiving their grades or registering for the next quarter until their Library
record is cleared. ATC students, and employees with five or more overdue books or fines in excess
of $5.00, will be blocked from checking out further library materials until their library records have been
cleared. Community patrons with three or more overdue items or fines in excess of $2.00 will be blocked from
checking out further library materials.
